Focus and Scope:
- To provide an international vehicle for the communication of ideas relating to research into philosophy in schools;
- To encourage professional interchange amongst researchers and practitioners involved with philosophy for pupils/students from early childhood to senior secondary both within and beyond Australasia;
- To promote and encourage academic reflection and research (including philosophical/conceptual andÂ empirical) into the growing field of philosophy in schools with the intention of making such information accessible to an international audience;
- To support discussion and implementation of better teaching and curricular design for the development of critical, creative and caring thinking amongst school-aged students through increased understanding and use of philosophical inquiry and thinking skills in the classroom;
- To enrich the understanding that the role philosophy plays in pedagogy and the beneficial outcomes of teaching philosophy to students;
- To promote the role of philosophy in developing critical thinking skills, social skills and empathetic behaviour that enhances the character and judgement (both moral and social) of those who engage with such concepts, particularly through the Community of Inquiry (CoI) methodology;
- To provide a vehicle for discussion about the place of philosophy in the curriculum, in Australasia and world-wide;
- To promote discussion and collaboration between researchers into philosophy in schools that includes academics within universities as well as schools and the wider community of scholars. The focus of this critical discussion may include logic, epistemology, metaphysics, aesthetics, ethics, creativity, philosophy of science, mind, personhood, community, thinking, dialogue, caring and empathy, and related topics concerning philosophy, inquiry and classroom pedagogy.

Peer Review Process
All contributions will be considered for publication. Following initial screening by the journal's Editors, articles will be subject to the normal processes of peer-review for scholarly refereed journals, including blind reviewing by at least two referees drawn from the Editorial Committee (or from other international scholars with special expertise as necessary). When submitting an article for consideration for review, it is understood that the article is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. The Editors will have the final say as to whether the article is published in the journal.
- All submissions to the journal must be made via email to either Dr Laura D'Olimpio (email@example.com) or Professor Andrew Peterson (Andrew.Peterson@unisa.edu.au).
- Articles should be between 4000 - 6000 words. Shorter articles are welcome and longer articles may be considered.
- Text should be double spaced, with ample margins.
- A Title page should be included with the submission detailing the title of the article, author's name and affiliation, full postal address and email address for any ensuing correspondence.
- Submission of an article will be held to imply that it contains original, unpublished work.
- The Editors reserve the right to make changes to manuscripts where necessary to bring them into conformity with the stylistic and bibliographical conventions of the Journal.

The JournalÂ of Philosophy in Schools publishes in an Open-access on-line forum hosted by The University of South Australia. This ensures articles are freely available to all, including those who don't subscribe to the journal.

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
