Abstract

The use of recorded lectures is increasing in universities at a time when technology makes those recorded lectures readily available. The increased use of recordings has coincided to some degree with declining attendances by students at on campus lectures. The recording of lectures may be one factor contributing to declining student attendance but it is unlikely to be the most significant factor. There may be many other factors influencing student attendance. The recording of lectures should be embraced because it has the
potential to enhance student learning and it provides access to tertiary education for many students who may, for various reasons, be unable to attend campus on a regular basis.
